Esson Properties, the Aberdeen based property development and investment company has announced it’s latest deal with the letting of one of the city’s best known landmarks, the former Cafe Society and International Casino in the heart of the West End.
Late last year Esson obtained planning consent for an extensive refurbishment and extension at 9 Queens Road to create a superb modern working environment with a signature office building of 21,500 sq ft.
Chartered Accountants, Anderson Anderson & Brown LLP have agreed terms on a 15 year lease on an undisclosed rent.
Formed in 1990, it is one of the leading firms of chartered accountants in Scotland with 12 partners and 125 staff covering all aspects of statutory accounting requirements and financial planning services for individuals and businesses. For the third consecutive year they have been the top deal initiator in the Scottish corporate finance sector.
Mike Brown, Managing Partner of Anderson Anderson & Brown LLP said, “We are delighted to have secured such high quality accommodation in a prime location in Aberdeen’s west end. The move will provide our staff with an outstanding working environment and give us an ideal platform from which we can continue to grow our business and to provide clients with a high quality service.”
Once extended, the property will be capable of housing 200, and the target date for occupation is August 2009.

A spokesman for Esson said, “We are delighted to have secured such a dynamic and reputable covenant to enhance our investment at 9 Queens Road which is undoubtedly one of the finest former merchant’s houses in the city.
“Work on this £9 million investment will commence in the next few weeks and we have been working closely with Anderson Anderson & Brown LLP and their team in order to provide what will be a magnificent home for them for the foreseeable future.”
Designed in 1878 for Alexander Reith Gray, commission agent and tea, fruit and provisions merchant and founder of the firm A.R. Gray Ltd, the building retains it’s very high quality interior including a superb Art Nouveau painted frieze.
The building is Grade B listed and Esson are committed to enhancing and conserving the integrity of the existing building whilst creating an outstanding contemporary working environment.
